I’m Liga Walters.

Psychotherapist specialising in trauma treatment.

I apply an effective integration of:

Somatic Therapy

Internal Family Systems

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

About me.

Having experienced my own share of difficult and traumatic experiences — both big and small (because trauma comes in many shapes and forms) — I understand what it can feel like to carry the lasting effects of what we’ve been through.

For me, this began a 12-year journey of exploring how to ease suffering, understand myself more deeply, and cultivate greater inner peace.

Along the way, I immersed myself in a wide range of approaches to healing and wellbeing, including psychotherapy, somatic and women’s embodiment practices, yoga, meditation and mindfulness, Buddhist philosophy, shamanism and other practices that explore our innate connection with nature and the cycles of life.

Each path, experience and challenge taught me something new. Together, they nurtured an ever-growing passion for understanding the human experience and supporting others on their own journeys — ultimately leading me to become a Trauma-Informed Psychotherapist.

Today, I feel more grounded, content and at home within myself than I ever have before. That doesn’t mean life is always calm or easy — life can still be wonderfully messy, busy and challenging (especially as a single mum to my young son!). 🌸

What has changed is my relationship with myself and with life. I have a deeper understanding of my inner world, greater capacity to meet difficult moments with compassion, and a collection of practices and tools that support me along the way.

These are some of the things I love bringing into my work with clients — not from a place of having everything figured out, but from having walked my own path of healing and continuing to grow.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me in nature — especially at the beach or swimming in freshwater — meditating, gardening, reading, spending time with my family, or studying something that has caught my curiosity. (Yes, I genuinely consider study a leisure activity! 😊)

My qualifications.

To maintain professional accreditation, each year I am required to complete 10 hours of professional supervision and 25 points of professional development. I also must maintain professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

As a passionate researcher and life-long learner, I am often undertaking some form of study. I have a wide range of interests and when I am really passionate about something it becomes one of my ‘tabs’ in my ever-expanding areas of research. My current research is in Somatic Therapy and the Neuroscience of trauma to further deepen my knowledge and understanding of these areas.
